My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Album Review

**FreddyFreshs Review of the Week**

"Where the fuck is Kanye when you need him?" - Eminem

Yes, agreed Marshall...agreed...where has Kanye been? Sure, hes been doing some features here and there (most recently on Kid Cudis newest album)...but since his pop effort 808's & Heartbreaks, West hasnt delved into hip hop in quite awhile (Graduation in 07). I am damn glad hes back because with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, he brings an almost concept rap album...from the grander, orchestral instrumentals and interludes, to his witty-weird rhyme styles, to the near-flawless features he brings with'll find yourself wowed on almost every track of his latest outing...

Album Art:
Ive seen around six different covers for this album, and have been impressed by a few of them...the first choice for the cover wouldnt be my first choice...if you Google covers for this album...check out the one with Wests head impaled by a large, medieval sword whilst wearing a crown...that ones badass...

Top 5 Tracks:
1. Hell Of a Life
2. Devil in a New Dress (ft. Rick Ross)
3. Blame Game (ft. John Legend)
4. Dark Fantasy
5. Gorgeous (ft. Kid Cudi and Raekwon)

Runner Up: So Appalled, Runaway

1. Hell Of a Life - I dont know where to begin with this thing I love about Kanye is his love for old school hip he displays that love in the fullest form as he delves his way into some of the best storytelling Ive heard on a mainstream rap song in quite some time. I also think its pretty rad that he simulates the same melody for the first part of the chorus from Black Sabbath's "Iron Man."

2. Devil in a New Dress (ft. Rick Ross) - I am not a fan of Rick Ross...I dont think he spreads his wings enough as an artist...but on this song hes completely different...sometimes writing about a lost love can do that...

3. Blame Game (ft. John Legend) - This is a LOVE ballad, and a beautiful one. Along for the ride with West is legendary R&B lounge singer John Legend, who has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard...sure, we've heard many, MANY ballads from Kanye but this one is different in some way...maybe its the nearly 8 minute long run time?

4. Dark Fantasy - Produced by West and RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan...this is an almost perfect intro and my second favorite intro to Wests albums (Good Morning on Graduation takes the cake...if you havent heard it, DO IT NOW!!) sets up the album nicely and prepares you for the raw beauty, heartbreak, and mature nature of this album.

5. Gorgeous (ft. Kid Cudi and Raekwon) - Along with Kanye on this outing is his young prodige Kid Cudi on the chorus and rap veteran Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan (who lends one of the most accurate depictions of fame, money, and power to his verse that calls for an award)...beautiful song...

He was a Dropout from College...was Late to Registration...and finally Graduated from school as a gifted MC/producer/all-around musician...what would one consider this outing...his graduation into something much more raw and bittersweet...if Graduation was when West received his Bachelors Degree of Hip Hop...then for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, he should receive his Masters Degree...cannot wait for the next gem...

J.Cole Ft. Drake - In The Morning

**TooKnown's Leak of the Day**

Straight off of his newest project getting ready to drop, the dudes behind the beat let us check it a little early. Them dudes over at L&X Music sent this cut through, basically having one of the dope-est combos of young artists on a track in todays standards. Personally I think these guys are nothing alike (seeing old footage), but they deff can make some hot music. Peep this ish, and deff be on the look out for these guys, they got a bunch brewing in the beat kitchen!!!

The Lady Killer - Review

**FreddyFresh's Review of the Day**

Well, I havent been an avid fan of Cee Lo Green, but like most, I heard him as the front MC for Gnarls Barkley. This is his first outing in nearly 6 years as a solo artist, and he really doesnt have that much more to offer the world of R&B/hip-hop. But for what it is, The Lady Killer is a fun album and takes you for a ride...however short lived it may be.

Cover Art:
This isnt really anything special...just like most covers you see of rappers/R&B artists...staring off into nowhere while the camera flashes a pic of them in their fresh-fly-threads and massive 'stunna' shades...boring...

Top 5 Tracks:
1. Fuck You!
2. Satisfied
3. Wildflower
4. I Want You
5. No Ones Gonna Love You

1. Fuck You! - Sure...its the single...sure...its been out for AWHILE now...but who cares, youre supposed to get tired of the singles on the albums, that is their purpose...

2. Satisfied - The biggest reason for liking this song is it sounds like an old school Motown jam filled with a grand group of backup female Cee Lo bleeds his heart out...

3. Wildflower - One of the hidden highlights of the album...his vocals dont get much more sweeter than on this gem.

4. I Want You - This is one of the albums 'filler' songs and really doesnt have that much to offer the listener, but act as said filler...maybe thats why I enjoy it...because Im not supposed to...

5. No Ones Gonna Love You - At first I didnt see what the big deal about this track was...until I truly listened to it...Cee Lo sings beautifully through a rendition of the popular Band of Horses track, making it one of the best cover songs this year.

Favorite Feature:
Well...there arent really any stand outs on the album...just more singers like Green...maybe he couldve talked to one of the many 'talented' rappers lighting up the charts to drop a sweet 16 for a reasonable cost of fifty grand...

Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr Rager - Review

**FreddyFresh's Review of the Day**

Well, Ive said this before; if I really thought about who my new favorite of the mainstream rappers are of the past few years, Kid Cudi would be in the top 2. Like most, I was hooked after I heard a certain pot smokers anthem awhile back (Day N Nite), and since then I have to listen to whatever he puts out. Sure, he doesnt always put out the greatest material, and most of it now lies at the dreary end of the tunnel, but who cares...I love it, and I know most of the people out there who listen to new hip hop who havent listened to Cudi yet, would vibe hard too. His sophomore effort, Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager falls, sadly, into the same category as the first...there are half a dozen GREAT songs, and most of the others fall short...

Cover Art:
Once I received my batch of albums to review, I couldnt take my eyes off of Cudis new cover. I bet twenty years from now (when vinyl is still the shit, and everything else is digital), a lonely-pot-smoking-indie kid will walk into a record shop and get the same feeling as myself..."I wonder what he's thinking about...why is the cover meant to look so warped and weathered...and why the hell is the universe pulsating in the background...(well, maybe these are questions Id ponder over in that record shop)?"

Top 5:
1. Mojo So Dope
3. Erase Me (ft. Kanye West)
4. Ashin' Kusher
5. Scott Mescudi Vs. The World (ft. Cee-Lo Green)

1. Mojo So Dope - The great thing about this album was the strong intro. The first two songs hooked me (same with the previous album). Then after a few mediocre efforts, the beat of Mojo So Dope took me for a ride and finally my head was bobbing along as I imagine Cudis did as he recorded this track. Ideally, I would love to hear this at my next drunken rampage.

2. REVOFEV - REVO...what...? It doesnt matter...the chorus is the highlight of this track; a lucid 16 bar rant about being a lost soul in the dawn of a revolution (at least thats what I took it as).

3. Erase Me (ft. Kanye West) - Sure, its the single and has been circling the internet for awhile, but who cares...let the other bloggers bitch about how "mainstream" this song is now...this is the sequel to tracks like Pursuit of Happiness and Alive off of his freshman effort. The greatest thing about this song are the three verses themselves, with West on the last. This is the track on the album thats meant to get overplayed, the one youre meant to get tired of listening to...because its THAT good.

4. Ashin' Kusher - This song makes Ashtin Kutchers name badass again...Im sure he wouldve blared this in his cassette deck during the filming of Dude, Where's My Car...or any episode of That 70's Show...while puffing on a marijuana cigarette of course...

5. Scott Mescudi Vs. The World (ft. Cee-Lo Green) - Not only is this a great title for a song (taken from the graphic novel series/new film Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World), like his first album, this is the make/break song for any listener...either you vibe or not...

Runner Up: Marijuana

Best Feature
Well...let me see...sure there are some great features on the hooks of a few jams, but I have to give it to Kanye...he always manages to bring his A-game on every featured track (plus hes the albums exec. producer, which is great because the albums production is beautiful). I was also a little disappointed with the long awaited Cage feature...sorry Cage...your flow was tighter when you were ON drugs (see the Weather Proof [EP]).

Well, like I said, I really enjoy Cudi and love the fact that his style of writing is so personal and dark...makes me want more...As a fan, the first half of the album blows the second half out of the water. For a second effort, its right up there with the first...but maybe next time...release a solid 6 song EP rather than a average album.
